Bass fishing is considered by many to be the sportiest of freshwater fishing. At Ontario lodges this phenomina is no exception. Smallmouth bass are known for their fighting stamina and astounding leaping ability. Like largemouth, they will take almost any kind of lure or bait, but they generally prefer smaller sizes. Favorites include jigs, crankbaits, spinners, streamer flies, shiner minnow, crayfish, leeches, and nightcrawlers. Smallmouth bass like clean, clear water which is abundant at all lodges through out the province. They are found in all types of natural and man made lakes and also thrive in rivers and streams with a moderate current through out Ontario.
The largemouth bass likes the shallows at the mouth of a stream, under a stump or amongst lily pads. They require delicate fishing techniques. They spook easily so you must avoid noise and movement when fishing for them. At most resorts you can get them fly casting, plug casting, and spinning. The average size caught is from 2 to 3 pounds. The largemouth bass is a fierce battler and has a larger mouth which extends beyond the eye.
